Professionally, I define myself as a strategic communicator; someone who helps clients bring clarity to their message then communicates that message to target audiences. I am more of a strategist and writer than a publicist.
Definitive Communications helps clients address advancements in science and technology, challenging social and economic development issues, and complex topics in education. We are uniquely qualified to guide for-profit, non-profit organizations and government agencies through the maze of conceptualization, planning and designing communication programs while delivering first-rate results.
Located in Washington, DC, Definitive Communications' address on Capitol Hill is in the heart of our nation's capital. However, our reach extends globally. Our clients' messages on innovation are disseminated around the world through traditional and new media as well as personal contact. Physically or virtually, we go where your message needs to be heard, understood, and acted upon.
I have been president of Definitive Communications for over a decade. Frequently organizations hire Definitive Communications specifically because of my capabilities and reputation for achieving results. I do, however, have colleagues I can call on if projects are too large or I need the specific talents of another person such as another strategist, writer, designer, or photographer. I blend right into most organizations, becoming more a team member than just a consultant.
As a communication strategist and writer, I have conceived and delivered highly effective programs for a wide range of organizations over the past twenty-five years. I enjoy working all aspects of the communication process: from strategy inception to crafting support materials to pitching to the media.
Present and past clients include: NASA's Ames Research Center, Dell Federal Government Services, the Creative and Innovative Economy Center at the George Washington University Law School, the United States Department of State, Washington DC Economic Partnership, the Hartford, Emerald Funding Corporation, the Digital Honesty Campaign, Forbes Magazine, National Institute for Literacy, Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business, Turner Strategies, the U.S. Committee for the World Intellectual Property Organization and Rock Creek International School.
My work experience, prior to opening Definitive Communications, includes employment at The Launch Company, A.T. Kearney, Institute for International Research (New York, Santiago and Sao Paulo), Berlitz International and The New Yorker.
I earned an Associate Bachelor's degree in international social relations at Cornell University in 1986. Additional studies included a graduate school program at Universidad Iberoamericano in Mexico City on Mexican media and copywriting classes at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
"Auggie" provides round-the-clock security for Definitive Communications' executive offices. He took the blue ribbon for Irish Terriers at his first (and only) all-breed dog show (Carter County Virginia, 2006). Citing a dislike of life on the catwalk, Auggie decided he would prefer to become a Canine Corp member of Washington's Historic Congressional Cemetery. He continues to enjoy his daily morning canine networking walks before settling into assignments for Definitive Communications.
